At least 140,000 people died when Cyclone Nargis struck the Irrawaddy Delta in Burma in May 2008.

Three million more were left in dire need of help - but the military government responded by blocking visas for international aid workers and arresting Burmese activists who tried to deliver assistance.

Many towns and villages were left alone to recover and rebuild what they had left.

The BBC's Jonathan Head has now been allowed to visit some of the affected areas.
