Up to Help Aung San Suu Kyi this June
16th or 17th, 2007 |
|
We
are calling on every single person who
believes in democracy and human rights
to organize an event on June 16th or 17th
to help draw attention to Aung
San Suu Kyi, the world's only imprisoned
Nobel Peace Prize recipient.

What can you do? It's simple: arrest
yourself. Here is how it works:
you agree to stay home for 24 hours --
as if you were under "house arrest"
like Aung San Suu Kyi.
Staying home alone, however, is not
enough. During a couple hours of that
24 hour period, you should host a "house
arrest" party and invite your friends,
family, and colleagues to join you for
a couple of hours. There are three things
you can do at this house arrest party
to make an impact for Aung San Suu Kyi
and the people of Burma:
|
1) |
|
Educate: During the party
portion of your house arrest, you can
screen a new documentary on Burma that
recently aired on PBS to help your guests
learn more about the situation in Burma.
You can also consider cooking Burmese
food -- we will send you a recipe. |
2) |
|
Advocate:
We will send you draft letters
so that your guests can send letters to
their members of Congress. This way, U.S.
decision-makers will be pressed to work
harder for the release of Aung San Suu
Kyi. |
3) |
|
Raise
funds: Aung San Suu Kyi and the
people of Burma really need your help.
Fundraising is very important to help
push the world to take action. That is
why we are asking every event to raise
between $300 and $1,000 for the campaign
to help free Aung San Suu Kyi. The best
way to do this is to ask every single
person who attends the party portion of
your "arrest" to donate between
$10 and $100. If you get 15 people to
donate $20 each, you will easily reach
$300. All donations are tax-deductible.
